The Mother and the Son
As for the two, mother and child, they were poor. And the woman had no husband and her child was a male. One day, her child who was a male said, "Mother, I'm going to trap-wild-chicken."
And his mother said, "Go so that we will have something to give as our food.
And her son went then he got one. And the child said to his mother, "Cook it, mother.
And his mother cooked it. And when it was cooked the mother said to her child, "Come so we can eat." And his mother dished-it-out (into a bowl) and they were about to eat but her child did not give her.
And his mother said, "Give me what you have trapped, so it will not be a waste (of my time) that I have worked hard cooking it and you are not giving me some." And it was said that she only had soup (as her share).
And he went again to-trap-wild-chicken. And he again let his mother cook (it), and when it was cooked again, he did not give her mother of the two (chicken that) he got.
And his mother said, "Perhaps you can give me even just the head."
And her child said, "Just because it is the head shall I not eat it (also)."
And his mother said, "Please give me its thigh."
And it was said that her-child said, "Just because it is the head shall I not eat it (also)."
The next day, the son again said, "Mother, I'm again going to trap-wild-chicken."
And her mother also said, "Go ahead."
And he went again and he got two again, and he again said, "Mother, singe it, and she singed it well too and she cooked it well and when it was cooked, his mother again called her son to eat. And again the son did not give his mother.
And his mother said, "Please give me even the neck."
And the son said, "Even the neck I will eat."
And the mother said, "Why is my son not giving me what he has been getting in his trap."
And one day, the mother said to her son, "Stay here and I will go on a journey." Because his mother was upset. She said to her son, "I will go look for our food to eat." Actually she deceived her son and she left her son. And she went travelling to different places. And she went to one place, she said, "Is there a dead-person there?
And the village where she had gone to said, "There is but it's on its third day."
And she said, "That's too long."' She went to another place and she said again, "Is there a dead person there?"
And they said too, "There is but it's on its fifth day.",
"That's too long." She went again to another place and she said also, "Is there a dead person there?"
And they also said, "There is but it's on its eight days today."
And the old woman also said, "That's too long." And she went again to another place, and she said also, "Is there a dead person there?"
And they said also, "There is but it's on its ninth day today."
And the old woman also said, 'That's too long."
And the people said, "What are you looking for?"
And she said, "Oh just something." And she went to one place and she said also, "Is there a dead person there?"
And they said also, "There is but it's on its tenth day today."
And the old woman said, "Would you not like it if I get it?"
And the people in that place said, "Go ahead and get it."
And she got it and kept on smelling the bad odor. She carried the corpse on her head. And she said as she was nearing their place, "I will go and put it at our rice granary." She said, "Stay here Giant." And the old woman said, "When I would have had my son come, eat him."
And she said to her son when she was at their home, "Come and go to the granary in order to get rice for our food."
And her son went and the giant ate him.
And when his mother went, she got all his fingernails, eyebrows, eyelashes and she covered them.
And as for the giant, he runs away.
And the son woke up and said to his mother, "Mother, I had died?"
And his mother said, "I don't know about you, what ever happened to you, you were dead and you became alive again?"
And the son said, "Mother, I'm going again to trap-wild-chicken."
And his mother said, "Go ahead." And he went again and he brought again one. And he said again to his mother, "Mother, cook (it)."
And his mother again cooked it and when it was cooked, his mother again said, "Come so we can eat." And he nicely gave his mother what he had trapped.
And his mother became happy and she said to her son, "This is what happened to you since you did not have a good character before I had you eaten up by a giant; (now) your life is good. It is finished.
